Pura Salsa

by: Andy Montañez

As with most of Universal Latino's Pura Salsa series, Andy Montañez's is a good, albeit not the best, collection of his work (Oro Salsero, for example, contains nearly all of its songs, plus quite a few others that aren't heard here). However, the sound quality is good and many of Montañez's hits, like the perennial first three tracks on his best-of compilations, "Payosa," "Genio y Figura," and "Josefina," as well as favorites like "Milonga Para una Niña" and "Me Gusta." Montañez aficionados won't find anything here that they don't already have, which is generally the case with this kind of thing, anyway, but Pura Salsa is a good choice for first-timers who want to bulk up their Puerto Rican salsero collection. ~ Marisa Brown
