Original Album Classics [3CD]

by: Bill Withers

This release in the Original Album Classics series sports a peculiar combination of albums. It features two of Bill Withers' best full-lengths in 1972's Still Bill and 1977's Menagerie, and it's joined by 1985's Watching You Watching Me, one that has limited appeal. The two '70s albums contain some of Withers' best singles and deep cuts, including "Use Me," "Lean on Me," "Who Is He (And What Is He to You)?," "Lovely Day," and "Let Me Be the One You Need." Two singles from the '85 album charted, but neither one is essential. For casual fans, Lovely Day: The Very Best of Bill Withers will do. It covers the basics and contains no fat. For more serious or daring listeners, The Complete Sussex and Columbia Albums might be bit daunting, but it's priced more like a three- or four-disc box set. ~ Andy Kellman
