Then and Now

by: Blue Öyster Cult

While most headbangers lost track of Blue Öyster Cult come the early '80s, the group continued to carry on -- issuing albums of varying quality and logging serious highway miles on tour. As a result, BÖC remained a concert attraction for their hardcore following, but few know about their latter-day albums. That's precisely where a compilation like Then and Now comes in handy. Comprised of material from releases circa the late '90s/early 2000s -- 1998's Heaven Forbid, 2001's Curse of the Hidden Mirror, and 2002's live set, A Long Day's Night -- the collection provides a good cross section of material from this veteran Long Island band. Included are such modern-day standouts as "Harvest Moon" (not to be confused with the Neil Young song of the same name), "Pocket," and "Damaged," as well as live takes of such classics from yesteryear as "Burning for You," "Godzilla," and, of course, "(Don't Fear) The Reaper." A worthy purchase for anyone interested in hearing what BÖC have been up to in recent times. ~ Greg Prato
