by: Brujeria

Brujeria, your favorite band of Latin American narco-satanists, rode the coattails of the late-'90s "Macarena" craze with their own interpretation of the smash hit, "Marijuana," a sort of electro-grindcore ode to Mary Jane that failed to match the crossover success of the original "Macarena," perhaps unsurprisingly. In addition, the EP of the same name includes a new version of "Matando Güeros" and a few live recordings (from a show at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in 1997): "Pito Wilson," "Hechando Chingazos," and "Matando Güeros." While Marijuana isn't at all worth going out of your way to acquire, it is notable for documenting Brujeria's oh-so-close brush with pop-crossover success. ~ Jason Birchmeier
