The Soul Troubadours

by: Clarence Carter / Eddie Floyd / Percy Sledge

The Soul Troubadours is a dreadful attempt at providing listeners with what should be a compilation of original hits by Percy Sledge, Eddie Floyd, and Clarence Carter. Unfortunately, nowhere on the outside of the package does it say these 18 tracks are re-recordings, and awful ones at that. The three main performers' voices are in decent shape, but the backing instruments sound like they came from Radio Shack. Basically, The Soul Troubadours is a gyp. If you're looking for the original versions of Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman," Floyd's "Knock On Wood," or Carter's "Patches," check out the Billboard Top R&B Hits series on Rhino. ~ Al Campbell
