Complete Recorded Works, Vol. 2 (1927-1931)

by: Earl Johnson

One might excuse offensive titles like "Nigger on the Wood Pile" and "Nigger in the Cotton Patch" as unfortunate signs of the times when these old timey tracks were recorded. But the annoying cackle of Earle Johnson (a kind of ugly uncle to Bob Wills' "a-hah") makes many of these tracks supremely unlistenable. As string bands go, Johnson's work was not the finest and this collection is proof. ~ Tim Sheridan
