Knock on Wood: Best of Eddie Floyd

by: Eddie Floyd

Being a part of the Stax/Memphis soul scene served Eddie Floyd very well. Although he only had one huge hit single, "Knock on Wood," it has endured over time to the point where those who are curious might want to pick up on this collection. Aside from the title track, the rest are minor songs, with writing credits split by Floyd and session legend Steve Cropper (they also co-penned "Knock on Wood"). Among the other tracks present on the compilation are "Mr. Blue," "On a Saturday Night," "Got to Make a Comeback," and the secondary hit "California Girl," all very tasty. Floyd had quite a voice and -- if not for Otis Redding -- could have been a major star instead of a one-hit wonder. ~ Michael G. Nastos
