If you like Jimmy Buffet's music you're going to love Gene Mitchell's album, Caribbean Cowboy. With it's heavy calypso influence, it's country-rock style tunes, and excellent vocals, this is an album that will lift your spirits. Kicking it off with track one, "Rum and Coca Cola," Gene Mitchell takes the listener on a melodic Caribbean voyage.Resounding vibes, strong calypso bassline, rhythm guitar, and well balanced vocal harmony make this an excellent opener. The second track, "Caribbean Cowboy," has excellent lyrics, comparing the life of a prairie cowboy to the life a sailor experiences.This is a fun song with a lot of vitality. Variety in musical style creates a strong attraction to this album.From "Jellyfish" a blues-rock tune, to "Hometown Girls" country twang, all the way to the strong pop sound of "A Mile High On You." The musicians are some of the best musicians in the business, making this a solid production.Gene Mitchell's songwriting talent and a genuine feel for a quality arrangement make this an album the listener can relate to.As well as being a first rate musician, Gene Mitchell is an exhilarating storyteller. ~ Larry Belanger
