Live at the Grand Ole Opry

by: Jim Reeves

While it may seem strange that a live album offers a nearly complete introduction to an artist as important as Jim Reeves, Live At the Opry fits that bill. A compilation of radio performances recorded at the Grand Ole Opry between 1953 and 1960, the music on Live At the Opry is uniformly excellent, demonstrating Reeves' talent for country-pop as well as his command of a live audience. Most of his biggest hits are here, as well as a handful of unfamiliar numbers, and all are delivered with style by either his backing band Blue Boys or an Opry pick-up band. For both dedicated fans and neophytes, there's plenty to treasure on Live At the Opry. ~ Thom Owens
