Legends of the Grand Ole Opry: Loretta Lynn Singing Her Early Hits Live!

by: Loretta Lynn

Given her iconic status in the country community, it's sometimes easy to forget just what a fine and gifted songwriter Loretta Lynn has been for some four decades now. This charming set collects 14 live performances Lynn gave on the Grand Ole Opry show at the historic Ryman Auditorium between 1963 and 1967, and if her voice is somewhat mixed down at times here, it's still nice to hear her wise and sturdy early songs like the wonderful "When Lonely Hits Your Heart," the defiant "You Ain't Woman Enough," and the astute "Don't Come Home a Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind)" done in such hallowed surroundings. ~ Steve Leggett
