Vámonos Pa'l Río

by: Los Pikadientes de Caborca

It's impossible to listen to Mexican upstarts Los Pikadientes de Caborca's debut album without smiling. Released to follow up on the success of their single “La Cumbia Del Rio,” it finds them doing for traditional Mexican music roughly what the Beastie Boys did for hip-hop. That is, they approach the form with obvious love and old-school skills, but also an unmistakable irreverence and quirky light-hearted feel. The arrangements stick to the traditional template, but there's a woozy, left-field vibe that will make you wonder whether you or they have had a little too much cerveza.
