The Out Sound from Way In! The Complete Vanguard Recordings

by: Perrey-Kingsley

Actually the artist billing is a bit inaccurate, as this combines Perrey-Kingsley duo recordings with Jean Jacques Perrey solo albums and remixes that were done 30 years down the line by parties other than Perrey-Kingsley. The first disc of this three-CD set pairs Perrey-Kingsley's two Vanguard albums, The In Sound from Way Out! (1966) and Kaleidoscopic Vibrations: Spotlight on the Moog (1967). The second disc contains Perrey's two Vanguard solo LPs, The Amazing New Electronic Pop Sound of Jean Jacques-Perrey (1969) and Moog Indigo (1970). The third disc is a "bonus CD of remixes," consisting of two Fatboy Slim remixes (one a "dub" remix) of the Perrey cut most known to circa 2000 audiences, "E.V.A.," plus Eurotrash remixes of five tunes from the Perrey-Kingsley Vanguard catalog. Its value is marginal, but perhaps Fatboy Slim's name in particular was thought to give the package just that little bit of extra oomph needed to make it relevant to the kids. Thorough liner notes top off a collection whose existence, and aura of serious archivism, would have been all but unimaginable just ten years before its appearance. ~ Richie Unterberger
