Simply Being Me

by: Sanchez

As a lovers rock singer, Sanchez's vocals reveal a sweet sensitivity that's rare in macho Jamaican culture. It's this quality that sets him apart from scores of reggae singers, some of whom have stronger voices, but don't come close to the emotional range that Sanchez displays. Simply Being Me offers a great portrait of the singer's skillful vocal talents. From the breezy opener "Sometimes," a Britney Spears remake that Sanchez totally transforms into a smooth reggae standard, to the rockin' "Burning Up," this CD supplies a sparkling array of flowing reggae tunes. Although there are times when Sanchez's syrupy style falters, such as his cover of Donel Jone's "Where I Wanna Be," which calls for more depth, Simply Being Me is a strong offering by a consistently successful artist. ~ Rosalind Cummings-Yeates
