Blues Stay Away from Me [Jasmine]

by: The Delmore Brothers

Working from a traditional country base but with solid boogie rhythms, impeccable harmonies, and a solid grounding in the blues, the Delmore Brothers also had the good sense to work with some of the best musicians in the hillbilly milieu, including two of the most gifted harmonica players to ever enter a studio, Wayne Raney and Lonnie Glosson. This fun set, although it lists tracks by the Delmore Brothers, the Hallelujah Trio, Hank Dalton & the Brakemen, Lonesome Willie Evans, and others, is -- don't worry -- all vintage Alton and Rabon Delmore, with the brothers' vocals everywhere here, and plenty of harp from Raney and Glosson, and the end result is delightful and remarkably cohesive. Highlights include the Delmore classics "Freight Train Boogie" and "Blues Stay Away from Me," as well as the fiery "Del Rio Blues," which features soaring dual harmonica leads from Raney and Glosson. ~ Steve Leggett
