Charly's Box

by: The Kingston Trio

Casual fans looking for a collection of "Tom Dooley"-era favorites from folk icons the Kingston Trio should steer clear of the four-disc Charly's Box, as it contains nothing but material recorded between 1988 and 2000. That said, longtime listeners looking to add four of the group's lesser-known outings like Live at the Crazy Horse (1994), Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 of the 2000 compilation Both Sides of the Kingston Trio, and former member Dave Guard's 1988 solo release, Up & In, will find a few bright spots in this hodgepodge anthology. ~ James Christopher Monger
