20th Century Rocks: '50s Rock 'n Roll - At the Hop

20th Century Rocks: '50s Rock 'n Roll - At the Hop is a frustrating collection. It looks like a lively blast of great rock & roll and pop featuring some of the biggest and best names of the era, but instead it is liberally sprinkled with that bane of the low-budget compilation: the re-recording. Does anyone really need stiff and wooden versions of Danny & the Juniors' "At the Hop" or Bobby Day's "Rockin' Robin" when the originals are such rip-roaring fun? Nope. Get a collection that is 100 percent original artists. Don't be fooled into buying this and don't let K-Tel think they can keep putting out criminally misguided collections like this anymore. ~ Tim Sendra
