70's Pop Hits

70's Pop Hits follows the usual tack of budget-line collections, grabbing a slate of oft-licensed tracks from the decade to fill out its three discs. This doesn't make it bad, by any means -- indeed, "Lowdown" from Boz Scaggs, Earth, Wind & Fire's "Shining Star," and the rollicking novelty of Dr. Hook's "Cover of the Rolling Stone" are just a few of the pop hits filling out this '70s set. At the same time, however, there's little attention paid to sequencing -- the stadium rock of Boston's "More Than a Feeling" abuts the smooth trills of the Emotions' "Best of My Love," -- and there are few, if any, liner notes. Most, if not all of these tracks, are available on numerous other collections with a better idea of pacing and packaging. ~ Johnny Loftus
