80s Fundamentals

Released by the Warner-owned catalog label Rhino, 80s Fundamentals is a digital download-only compilation of hit singles that spanned the decade. Beyond those qualities, there's no apparent rhyme or reason behind the selections (which could have been made in roughly the same amount of time as the cheap artwork). Adult contemporary ballads, electro-pop, hair metal, mainstream rock, and a token R&B pick are all part of the compilation. With the exception of rap, every major genre is represented. Among the 20 cuts: Christopher Cross' "Sailing," Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love," Bananarama's "Cruel Summer," Alannah Myles' "Black Velvet," and Skid Row's "18 and Life." ~ Andy Kellman
