Country Classics [K-Tel 2002]

This uneventful K-Tel collection features 18 tracks that are more or less classics, since many of them were successful as either country or crossover singles during their 1960s and '70s heyday. However, the album is drawn mainly from re-recordings, which is a gyp if one is purchasing Country Classics to reminisce. Sure, "Big Bad John," "Harper Valley P.T.A.," and "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" are memorable country moments. But there are more effective collections than this that contain such classics. ~ Johnny Loftus
