Every Great Motown Song, Vol. 1: The 1960s

For Motown to purport that any slapdash collection of this kind contains every great song from the label's storied history is an insult not only to consumers but to the artists themselves. Certainly, each and every one of these songs is a classic -- even after decades of oldies overkill, favorites like Martha & the Vandellas' "Heat Wave," the Temptations' "My Girl" and the Four Tops' "Reach Out (I'll Be There)" still pack a wallop -- but they barely scratch the surface of what the Sound of Young America was truly about; even as budget-line collections go, it's a sham. ~ Jason Ankeny
