Forever Friends: Mum in a Million

Released in association with the Forever Friends line of greeting cards, Forever Friends: Mum in a Million is a double-disc compilation of pop songs that makes for a nice Mother's Day gift. Known for its distinctive teddy bear design, Forever Friends is a Hallmark Cards brand popular in the United Kingdom. The commercial success of Forever Friends: Just for You (2009), a similarly marketed compilation oriented toward Christmas, paved the way for Forever Friends: Mum in a Million as a follow-up release a few months later. The compilation includes 20 tracks on each of its two discs, and the selections are not only mom-friendly but often classic. Some of the classics compiled on the first disc include Dolly Parton's "9 to 5," Aretha Franklin's "I Say a Little Prayer," and Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." Some of the classics compiled on the second disc include ABBA's "Dancing Queen," Simon & Garfunkel's "Homeward Bound," and David Soul's "Going in with My Eyes Wide Open." In addition to the classics, Forever Friends: Mum in a Million includes a little bit of material from recent years. Contemporary highlights on the first disc include Westlife's "Mandy," Ronan Keating's "Life Is a Rollercoaster," and Girls Aloud's "The Loving Kind." Contemporary highlights on the second disc include James Blunt's "1973," Shayne Ward's "Breathless," and Scouting for Girls' "Heartbeat." ~ Jason Birchmeier
