Hits of '41

Just in case anyone has forgotten that the Living Era reissue label is based in England, this compilation of hit records from 1941 represents more or less the music that was popular in the U.K. during that dark and difficult time. A number of top U.S. performers are represented here: Tony Martin with Victor Young, Marion Hutton with Glenn Miller, Helen O'Connell with Jimmy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Artie Shaw, Bing Crosby and the Ink Spots, as well as Canadian actress Deanna Durbin. These are intermingled with English artists whose music may come as a pleasant surprise to listeners in North America. They include Dorothy Carless with Geraldo & His Orchestra, Flanagan & Allen, someone who went by the name of Hutch, Al Bowlly and Jimmy Messene, Monte Rey with Joe Loss & His Orchestra and Nat Gonella leading his New Georgians. It's nostalgia through a distinctly British lens. Very nice listening! ~ arwulf arwulf
