I Hate CD's: Norton Records Singles Collection, Vol. 1

Tireless defenders of the retro rock-&-roll lifestyle, Brooklyn's Norton Records entered the revamped digital market with a bang in 2008, releasing this substantial download-only collection of 45s from the label's famously deep vaults. As much a musical illustration of the entire Norton philosophy as it is a concession to the changing landscape of the music biz, the set contains tracks by label bellwethers such as Hasil Adkins, Esquerita, and Link Wray, as well as a host of both well-known (the Ramones and Dictators) and supremely obscure (Stud Cole, Bunker Hill, and Herbie Duncan) rock-&-roll loyalists. While the set contains a few modern cuts, the bulk of the material here is first generation devil’s music, hotter than splattering grease and wilder than two chickens driving a muscle car.
