Pure... Divas

Featuring 68 tracks spread across four discs, Pure…Divas isn't centered around a particular era or genre, as it traverses several decades and hops across folk, soul, rock, adult contemporary, pop, country, and contemporary R&B. It also plays a little loose with the definition of diva; most of these artists are not in the same class as, say, Billie Holiday or Gladys Knight. Regardless, there's a wide range of enduring songs, including Labelle's "Lady Marmalade," Eartha Kitt's "I Want to Be Evil," Evelyn King's "Love Come Down," and Deniece Williams' "Free." When Sony released this in the U.K., it retailed for roughly the price of a single-disc midline compilation. ~ Andy Kellman
