Ryman Country Homecoming, Vol. 1

The Ryman Country Homecoming series collects special performances made for a three-volume set of video cassettes also aired as specials on the Nashville Network and released on CD and cassette. Performed at the legendary Ryman Auditorium and hosted by Ralph Emery and Bobby Bare, the format is somewhat similar to VH1's Storytellers series in that artists appear to tell stories and discuss their material between performances, but where that show devotes an hour to one artist, Ryman Country Homecoming selects one or two songs apiece from a variety of artists. Vol. 1 features performances by such country legends as Willie Nelson ("On the Road Again," and a duet with Waylon Jennings on "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys"), Crystal Gayle ("Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue"), B.J. Thomas ("I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head"), Glen Campbell ("Gentle on My Mind," "Crying"), Ricky Van Shelton ("From a Jack to a King"), Jennings solo ("Good Hearted Woman"), Larry Gatlin ("All the Gold in California"), and Roy Clark ("Yesterday When I Was Young"), and more. ~ Steve Huey
