Sweethearts & Stolen Summer Kisses

This 50-track, two-disc collection of late-'50s and early-'60s pop hits doesn’t just cover the puppy love angle that the title, Sweethearts & Stolen Summer Kisses, hints at (“Tequila” by the Champs and “Summertime Blues” by Eddie Cochran, to name just two of the cuts found here, are hardly about matters of the heart, for instance), but it does make for a pretty nice, warmly nostalgic summertime playlist with classic sides like the Miracles' “Shop Around,” Elvis Presley's “All Shook Up,” the Isley Brothers' “Shout,” Sam Cooke's “Only Sixteen,” the Drifters' “Save the Last Dance for Me,” and Fats Domino's “Walking to New Orleans,” among others. There’s nothing exhaustive and definitive about this collection, but there’s not a slack track on it that wasn’t a hit, either. ~ Steve Leggett
