The Canadian American Story

The Canadian-American record label listed New York and Winnipeg as its main offices, but the company was started in Grand Forks, ND and the Winnipeg office was simply a mailing address to give off an international image. The two biggest hits on the label were Santo and Johnny's immortal "Sleepwalk" and Linda Scott's "I Told Every Little Star." But great sides from the Choir (early version of the Raspberries), the Criterions ('50s doo-wop featuring Manhattan Transfer's Tim Hauser), Jerry Landis (Paul Simon), Joey Brooks (writer of "You Light Up My Life"), Carol Goldberg, and the Four Kings amid the more pop offerings makes this a label retrospective well worth checking out. ~ Cub Koda
