Afronaught

The primary, though by no means only, stage name of British DJ and record maker Orin Walters, Afronaught allows Walters to explore a more soulful side of his dance heavy sound. He first began performing at clubs and parties in the 80s. After a stint in America in the mid 90s, Walters returned to England and soon became a central figure in the West London broken beat scene. He formed a loose affiliation of like-minded DJs dubbed Bugz in the Attic that at one time or another included Ben Esser, Mark Force, Alex Phountzi and many more. Walters helped run a various music labels that put out his work, as well as the output of other Bugz in the Attic members. All the while he became one of the most in-demand DJs on the scene. With its reliance on funk and jazz rhythms and hard-driving, insistent beats, his 2001 album as Afronaught, Shapin’ Fluid, defined the broken beat scene he had helped create.
