Anouar Brahem

Anouar Brahem is a noted jazz musician from Tunisia who plays the traditional Arabic oud stringed instrument. He studied at Tunisia's National Conservatory of Music and moved to Paris where he worked with choreographer Maurice BĂ©jart on his ballet 'Thelassa Mare Nostrum' and played the lute on Gabriel Yared's score for the feature film 'Hanna K.' (1983) by Costa-Gavras. He has released several albums including 'Barzakh' (1991), 'Conte de l'Incroyable Amour' (1992), 'Khomsa' (1995), 'Astrakan Cafe' (2000), 'Le Pas du Chat Noir' (2002), 'Le Voyage de Sahar' (2006), 'The Astounding Eyes of Rita' (2009), 'Souvenance' (2014) and 'Blue Maqams' (2017). His 2020 schedule was to include appearances at venues in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
