Ashley Webber

With a gritty, intimate musical demeanor and voice that fall in the territory of Angel Olsen and Sharon Van Etten, Ashley Webber is a Vancouver musician who performs her own material under the name Ashley Shadow. Well before adopting the Shadow moniker, she played bass in post-punk band the Organ, which formed in 2001. They released a series of EPs and one full-length, 2004's Grab That Gun, before Webber left the group in 2005. Over the next decade, she collaborated as a sidewoman and guest musician for an assortment of well-regarded artists, including singing on the Pink Mountaintops' 2006 LP Axis of Evol and later on Outside Love, Bonnie "Prince" Billy's Lie Down in the Light, and 2009's Welcome Joy by the Cave Singers. Webber signed with Felte Records for her eponymous Ashley Shadow debut. Produced by Joshua Wells of Black Mountain and Lightning Dust (the latter his duo with Ashley's sister Amber Webber), it was released in April 2016. ~ Marcy Donelson
