Beatsteaks

Although the Berlin-based Beatsteaks are undeniably a punk band, the band's wide ranging musical appeal attracts audiences from outside the focused world of punk. This genre busting appeal was demonstrated when their 2004 album 'Smack, Smash' entered the Mainstream Charts being certified platinum in the process. It spawned two hit singles, 'Hand in Hand' and 'I Don't Care As Long As You Sing', both of which were popular hits on German MTV. The band were formed in 1995, just in time to open for The Sex Pistols who were playing one of their comeback gigs in Berlin. It was their tenth live gig and proved to be a springboard for their career in Germany introducing the band to an enthusiastic punk audience. With eight studio albums to their credit the band remain a popular attraction on the European festival circuit. They are also involved in two successful side projects - the band NinaMarie which is a collaboration with Marten Ebsen of Turbostaat and the covers band Die Roys.
