Discovered at 14 when she started posting cover songs on YouTube, Becky G evolved from a bubblegum rap starlet into an international Latin pop diva. Born Rebecca Gomez on March 2, 1997 in Inglewood, California, she was nine when her Mexican family suffered financial problems, lost their home to a fire and ended up living in her grandparents' garage. Through the struggle she emerged as a determined, headstrong character and started out performing with unsuccessful girl groups G.L.A.M. and BCG as well as modelling and acting in commercials. She began recording her own raps but it was her cover of Kanye West's track “Otis” that landed he a record deal with Dr. Luke’s label Kemosabe, which led to her debut single “Problem” featuring will.i.am. Becky G revamped Jennifer Lopez's hit “Jenny from the Block” into “Becky from the Block”, with Jennifer Lopez even appearing in the video with her. “Shower” became her first major hit when it reached number 16 in the US charts in 2014 and she was still only 17 years old as her EP Play It Again started to build her fanbase further. Tours with Demi Lovato, Katy Perry and Fifth Harmony continued to build her profile and she featured on tracks by Cher Lloyd, Thalia and Lil Jon before acting in the TV series Empire. She found a new audience, too, when she used her bilingual skills to top the Spanish charts with singles “Moyeres” featuring Bad Bunny and “Sin Pijama” with Natti Natasha. She also incorporated reggaeton into her sound and toured with J Balvin before teaming up with Sean Paul and David Guetta on their UK hit “Mad Love” in 2018. She dropped her debut album, Mala Santa, in 2019 scoring hits with “Dollar” as well as the title track. She returned to the charts in 2020 with the single “No Drama”, and again in 2021 with both “Ram Pam Pam” and “Fulanito”. Her reputation continued to gather pace with the release of her second studio album Esquemas in 2022, which cracked the US Billboard 200 at 92 and scaled the Latin Pop Albums charts where it went to number one. Becky G's third album Esquinas arrived in 2023 and also made a dent on the US Billboard 200 as well as charting at number seven in the Top Latin Albums and making it to number three on the Regional Mexican Albums chart.
