Before Dark

1990s R&B girl group gems Before Dark formed in South Central Los Angeles in 1998. Comprising sisters Arike Rice and Jeni Rice Genzuk (a.k.a. Jeni G.), and their friend Mia Wright (née Lee), the trio dropped a pair of singles in 1999 – “Come Correct” and "Baby" – and the group's debut album, Daydreamin', arrived the following year. Released on RCA Records, the album's third and most successful single, "Monica," peaked at 77 on the Billboard 200 and at Number 7 on the Billboard R&B sales chart. Before Dark parted ways in 2001, with Arike Rice going on to appear in the 2006 musical drama movie Dreamgirls as a member of The Stepp Sisters, and in the 2007 film Hairspray as a member of The Dynamites. Jeni G was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2016 for her work as a supervising producer of the hit American Broadcasting Company series Black-ish.
