Bobby Lyle

Jazz pianist Bobby Lyle began showing an interest in music at the age of six when he started learning to play the piano under his mother's tutelage. With strong influences including Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner and Art Tatum, Lyle performed his first concert when he was just 16. Relocating to Los Angeles, he landed a position in the band of Sly & the Family Stone, also acting as a session musician for Ronnie Laws, George Benson, Esther Phillips and Phyllis Hyman. At the age of 30 he released his debut album 'Bobby Lyle Plays'. He followed this with 'The Genie' (1977), 'New Warrior' (1978) and 'Night Fire' (1979), with the 1980s seeing 'Night Breeze' (1985) and 'Ivory Dreams' (1989). Into the '90s he released 'The Journey' (1990), 'Rhythm Stories' (1994) and 'Power of Touch' (1997) with 'Joyful' in 2002, 'Straight and Smooth' in 2004 and 'Hands On' in 2006. In 2012 he started recording his first release on which he played the Hammond organ. The record, 'The Way I Feel', was released in 2013 on his own label New Warrior Music.
