Caro Emerald

Oozing classic 1940s glamour with an elegant, smooth voice, Dutch jazz star Caro Emerald is a stylish modern diva with a love for vintage crooning pop. Raised on her father's classical records, Emerald (real name Caroline Esmeralda van de Leeuw) discovered she could sing at 11-years-old when she auditioned for a school musical and went on to study music at the Amsterdam Conservatory. There she fell in love with the music of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Dusty Springfield, but spent years performing to disinterested crowds in dead end bars before finally catching a big break when her demo recording of Back It Up became a surprise YouTube hit. Debut album Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor (2010) spent 30 weeks at Number 1 in the Netherlands and sold over 1 million copies as Emerald went on to play at London's Royal Albert Hall and play live on TV show Strictly Come Dancing. Filled with a trademark mix of sassy swing and jumping, big band show tunes, follow-up The Shocking Miss Emerald (2013) adopted a slightly more contemporary feel as it topped the UK charts and earned comparisons to Shirley Bassey, Paloma Faith and Amy Winehouse.
