Disillusion

The Leipzig-originating progressive metal band Disillusion was founded in 1994 by Andy Schmidt (guitar/vocals), Tobias Spier (who left the band in 1997), Alex Motz (who left the band in 1997), Markus Espenhain (who left the band in 1996), and Jan Stölzel (who left the band in 1997). With Andy Schmidt as their only constant member, the group went on to release a string of demos and EPs between 1994 and 2004, including the Rehearsal demo of 1995 and the Three Neuron Kings EP of 2001, before stepping out with their debut full-length, Back to Times of Splendor. Released in 2004 on Metal Blade Records, the concept-driven LP earned the band endless accolades and paved the way for a series of live shows and a European tour. Gloria, the electronic-tinged follow-up arrived in 2006, also on Metal Blade Records, but its stylistic shift proved divisive and the band announced their hiatus. They re-emerged in 2016 with a new single, "Alea" and a new EP of the same name, with a new album following three years later. Released in 2019, The Liberation marked Disillusion's first new album in 13 years and signalled a new chapter for the conflict-ridden band, who cracked the German Top 100 Album Charts at 45. In 2022, the group's fourth full-length Ayam entered the German charts at number 35.
