Dota Kehr

Dota, also known as Dota Kehr and formerly Kleingeldprinzessin (born September 14, 1979 in West Berlin), is a singer-songwriter and music producer from Germany. Born Dorothea Kehr, she first began playing the saxophone. She was already performing at fairs at the age of 14. It was only a few years later that she started playing the guitar. Until the early 2000s, the singer was known as the Penny Princess. Her early recordings are characterized by bossa nova. Her first release appeared in 2003: Mittelinselurlaub - Perto da Estrada together with Danilo Guilherme alias Dan. Her album Bis auf den Grund, released in 2010, goes more in the direction of folk rock and with influences from jazz and fairground music. In 2012, she appeared as a guest singer on the song "Bis nach Haus" by Max Prosa. She later collaborates with artists from the German protest movement, including Franz Josef Degenhardt. Dota Kehr has received several awards for her music, including the German Cabaret Award (2011, 2019) and the German Record Critics' Award (2016). According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, her song "Keine Zeit" makes her the face of the German climate movement. In 2023, her album In der Fernsten der Fernen-Mascha Kaleko 2 enters the German top 10 at number 8. Another album by Dota Kehr, Live, follows a year later.
