Doug MacLeod

The blues artist Doug MacLeod has a catalogue of over 300 songs, many of which have been recorded by other artists including Eva Cassidy, Papa John Creach, Albert King and Son Seals. A recipient of four prestigious Blues Music Awards (formerly known as the WC Handy Award) Macleod is a highly respected performer with a career going back to the early 1960s. As a child he suffered from a chronic stutter and found that singing helped him overcome his speech difficulties. Prior to starting his career as a professional bluesman MacLeoad was a serviceman in the US navy based in West Virginia. He later moved to the West Coast and nowadays is most closely associated with Los Angeles, his adopted home. Macleod's style is to use the blues in the traditional way, as a storytelling platform, and this method of delivery has become synonymous with his live performances. As well as a talented vocalist and songwriter MacLeod is also an accomplished guitarist who is in demand as a teacher having compiled an instructional CD on guitar technique. His mantra for blues performers is to "never play a note you don't believe and never write or sing about what you don't know about".
