Eivind Aarset

Born March 23, 1961, Eivind Aarset is a Norwegian guitarist best known for his work with a wide variety of artists including Ray Charles, Bill Laswell, Jon Hassell, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jan Barbarek, David Sylvian, and many others. His own style has been compared to nu-jazz, electronica, and everywhere in between. Apart from being Norway’s most in-demand session guitarist, he has also released numerous albums as both a leader and a sideman. Eivind Aarset was inspired to play guitar at the age of 12 after hearing Jimi Hendrix. His musical inspirations were initially hard rock and heavy metal artists, but after playing in a heavy metal band, his interests shifted and her pursued jazz, new wage, and life as a session guitarist. In between his own solo releases, he found time to release albums with Ab un Zu, Jan Bang, Ragnar Bjerkreim, Ketil Bjornstad, Carola, Sigvart Dagsland, Bjorn Eidsvag, Marilyn Mazur, Bendik Hofseth, and others. He also plays on three solo albums from a-Ha vocalist Morten Harket. He also contributed guitar to albums by Clay Aiken, Bel Canto, Lars Frederiksen, Jon Hassell, Nick Lachey, Sly & Robbie, and many more. Aarset released his debut solo album, Electronique Noire, in 1998. This album and his next four were released on Jazzland before he signed with ECM for the critically successful 2012 Dream Logic album. He then returned to the Jazzland label for 2015’s I.E. and 2020’s Snow Catches on Her Eyelashes.
