Famba

Despite being a self-taught drummer and guitarist who grew up on rock music, Nova Scotian artist Famba, aka Ryan Pettipas, has made a name for himself with house-fuelled electronic pop. Famba transitioned through numerous genres before finding his way to the catchy electronic sound he has become known for. Growing up he listened extensively to metal, progressive rock and grunge before dance music took a hold on him thanks to the work of artists such as Zedd, deadmau5, Pendulum, Tiesto and Paul Oakenfold. As an artist Famba flirted briefly with underground techno before landing on the more melodic sound that gave him his breakout track, 'Vibe', in May 2017. Recorded in collaboration with Frank Pierce, it had notched up some 27 million streams within 18 months. The singles 'Space', 'Not Giving Up', 'Wish You Well' (in collaboration with Lucky Rose and Australian vocalist Trove) and 'Storm' (featuring Kyra Mastro) followed over the next couple of years. Alongside his own work Famba has remixed the likes of Tyler Shaw ('Cautious'), Mahalo ('Be My Love') and Saint WKND ('Survive').
