GACKT

Singer-songwriter Gackt first came to the attention of the Japanese record buying public as a member of the 'kei' visual rock band Malice Mizer and during his tenure with the group wrote what was to become their most successful single titled 'Le Ciel'. After four years and two studio albums with the band he left to pursue a solo career in 1999. Born Gakuto Oshiro in Okinawa in 1973, as a young boy he learned classical music and as well as possessing an excellent voice is also an accomplished pianist, drummer and guitarist. After leaving Malice Mizer Gakuto has enjoyed a consistently successful career in music and holds the record for the greatest number of consecutive top ten singles by a Japanese artist. He has released almost 50 singles and although many have been successful none of them reached number one until 'Returner (Yami no Shuen)' released in 2007. Like many Japanese artists Gakuto has a parallel career as an actor and has made regular appearances in a number of TV series as well as appearing in a number of films.
