Girl in Red

Norwegian indie pop artist Girl in Red (real name: Marie Ringheim) got her start making and sharing lo-fi bedroom pop anthems, attracting a massive fanbase and millions of monthly streams. Born in Horten, Norway on February 16, 1999, she began playing the guitar and writing songs at age 14. She went on to teach herself piano and production and in 2016 began releasing her own music on Soundcloud under the alias Lydia X. She reportedly picked up her Girl in Red moniker while trying to identify herself to a friend in a crowd via text, and it was under this new stage name that she had her first hit with 2017’s “I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend.” When NRK Urørt, a website showcasing emerging Norwegian talent, featured the song the following year, it attracted a surge in streams. She hadn't been idle in the months between the song's release and its surge in popularity, and her new fans quickly took to “Summer Depression” and “Girls,” racking up millions of plays for the tracks. She supported her debut EP, Chapter 1 (2018), supporting Clairo on tour in Europe and then heading over the Atlantic to support Conan Gray in March 2019. Later in the year, she released the Chapter 2 EP. Girl in Red scored her first Belgian chart hit with 2020’s “Rue,” and in 2021, she returned to the charts with “Serotonin,” which also went Top 40 in several countries around the world. Both of those singles appeared in her 2021 debut album If I Could Make It Go Quiet. In 2024, Girl in Red released the singles “Too Much,” “Doing It Again, Baby,” and “You Need Me Now?” (featuring Sabrina Carpenter), and announced the release of her second album, I’m Doing It Again, Baby!
