Goldie

A hip-hop obsessive who grew up in breakdance crews and graffiti gangs in the British West Midlands, Goldie took the mid-1990s dance scene by storm with his electronic soundtracks to the grime, aggression and industrial isolation of the city. Inspired by UK breakbeat and jungle DJ pioneers 4Hero, he set up his own label Metalheadz in 1994 and ran the acclaimed Metalheadz Sunday Sessions club nights which showcased some of the most groundbreaking drum and bass producers. Mixing choppy rhythms with deep bass lines and symphonic strings, his 1995 seminal album 'Timeless' became a landmark for the genre producing the classic single 'Inner City Life' which reached number seven in the UK Charts. Renowned for his gold teeth, Goldie recruited Noel Gallagher, David Bowie and KRS-One to feature on his second album 'Saturnz Return' in 1998 and though he remained active as a DJ and producer, the 2000s saw him become something of a celebrity with acting roles in 'Snatch', 'EastEnders' and the James Bond film 'The World Is Not Enough' plus television appearances in reality shows 'Big Brother', 'Maestro' and 'Strictly Come Dancing'. After several years of trying his hand at different mediums, Goldie returned to the studio to record his new album 'The Journey Man' which was released in 2017.
