Hayden James

Since debuting in 2013, Australian house music artist Hayden James has developed an easygoing, propulsive sound that has landed him gigs as a producer and collaborator with a number of pop artists, including Katy Perry and Icona Pop. His style also made him an ideal fit for the streaming era, where his mellow sound can easily be applied to all manner of “chill tracks” and “good vibes” playlists, racking up hundreds of millions of streams in the process. Born in Sydney, James launched his career in 2013 with his self-titled, five-song EP, which showed off his already fully-formed sound. This set the table for his first major hit, “Something About You”, which went gold in his home country and hit Number 4 on Australia’s AIR chart. The song’s success earned him a slot on a 2015 North American tour alongside American indie electronica duo and sometime collaborators ODESZA. He’d breach the AIR top 10 again with “Numb” (Number 2) in 2017, reaching platinum status. In 2017, James was invited into the international pop mainstream by co-writing and co-producing “Déjà Vu” for Katy Perry’s album Witness. The solo track “Just Friends” would return James to the platinum ranks, and provided the lead-up to his debut LP, Between Us. The record reached Number 9 on the Australian album charts and earned him a nomination for Best Male Artist at the ARIA Awards, Australia’s equivalent to the Grammys. “Right Time”, his collaboration with Icona Pop, arrived in April 2020.
