Jeannie C. Riley

Born and raised in Texas, Jeannie C. Riley grew up quickly, becoming a wife and mother by the age of 21. Determined to have a career in music, Riley and her family moved to Nashville where she found work as a secretary at a record label and began recording demos in her spare time. In 1968 she recorded Harper Valley PTA, a single which would go on to reach the number one spot on both the Billboard and Country Charts as well as receiving a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and the CMA Award for Single Of The Year. Following the success of Harper Valley PTA Riley had moderate successes with The Back Side Of Dallas, Good Enough To Be Your Wife and There Never Was A Time. During the 1970s Riley confirmed her faith as a Christian and began to change the direction of her music into gospel and worship, releasing From Harper Valley To The Mountain Top, an album describing her journey to find her faith.
