Jenny Lewis

A former child actress who was raised in California and had roles in shows such as Roseanne, Baywatch, and Lucille Ball's Life With Lucy, Jenny Lewis was born to the stage - her mother even went into labor with her while performing as a lounge act at The Sands Hotel, Las Vegas. Born Jennifer Diane Lewis on January 8, 1976, in Las Vegas, Nevada, she eventually turned her back on a Hollywood career to form indie rockers Rilo Kiley in 1998. Lewis contributed vocals to records by The Postal Service and Death Cab For Cutie before recording her debut solo album Rabbit Fur Coat (2006) for Conor Oberst's Team Love label. Soulful, uplifting, and tinged with old-time Americana, it featured backing singers The Watson Twins, M. Ward, and Ben Gibbard, and included a cracking cover of George Harrison's Traveling Wilburys song "Handle With Care." Its follow-up, Acid Tongue (2008), came with sun-baked Californian melodies, a swaggering bluesy country rock band, and collaborations with Elvis Costello, Black Crowes' Chris Robinson, and Zooey Deschanel, and was named at Number 18 on Rolling Stone's Albums of the Year list. A redheaded, playful, charismatic songstress, Lewis has also recorded the album I'm Having Fun Now (2010) with boyfriend Johnathan Rice under the moniker Jenny and Johnny and guested on records by Brandon Flowers, Elvis Costello, and Whispertown 2000. Furthermore, she collaborated with the indie-pop group The Postal Service, providing vocals on multiple tracks and touring with the band in 2013. This collaboration was followed by solo album The Voyager (2014). In 2016, Jenny Lewis recorded the album Nice As Fuck as a member of the trio of the same name, and in 2019 she released the album On the Line, which reached Number 6 on the US rock charts. Produced by Dave Cobb and recorded at Nashville's legendary RCA Studio A, her fifth studio effort Joy'All came out in 2023 via Blue Note Records.
