John Surman

John Surman is a British jazz saxophonist and clarinettist who had stints with bands led by pianists Mike Westbrook and Peter Lemer, bassist Graham Collier and bluesman Alexis Korner before establishing The Trio with bassist Barre Phillips and drummer Stu Martin. Later, he formed S.O.S. with alto sax player Mike Osborne and tenor sax player Alan Skidmore and made recordings with artists including Michael Gibbs, John McLaughlin and Ronnie Scott. He has released many albums including 'John Surman' (1969), 'Westering Home' (1972), 'Live at Woodstock Town Hall' (1975), 'Upon Reflection' (1979), 'Such Winters of Memory' (1983), 'Private City' (1988), 'Adventure Playground' (1992), 'Stranger Than Fiction' (1994), 'Proverbs and Songs' (1997), 'Coruscating' (2000), 'Free and Equal' (2003), 'The Spaces Between' (2007), 'Brewster's Rooster' (2009), 'Songs About This and That' (2013), 'Infinite Paths' (2016) and 'Invisible Threads' (2018). His 2019 schedule included appearances at venues in Brazil and the Cheltenham Jazz Festival in England.
