Jul

Julien Mari is a prolific French rap artist who goes by the stage name of Jul. He was born in Marseille on January 14, 1990, and released his debut album Dans Ma Paranoia in 2014. The album was an immediate success in his home country where it reached Number 7 in the charts and heralded the start of an incredible run of success which made Jul one of the most successful rap artists to have entered the French music scene in recent years. He released two follow-up albums during the same year – Lacrizeonomic and Je Trouve Pas le Sommeil – both of which made the Top 10 and established Jul's name as a significant emerging talent. During the ensuing four years, he went on a hot streak with the albums with My World (2015), Émotions (2016), L’Ovni (2016), and Je Ne Me Vois Pas Briller (2017), all of which topped the French Albums Chart upon their release and earned platinum status shortly after. Jul's creative run continued with La Tête Dans les Nuages (2017), Inspi d'Ailleurs (2018), La Zone en Personne (2018), Rien 100 Rien (2019), and C'est Pas des LOL (2019), a series of LPs that entered SNEP’s Top 5 and obtained platinum certification. In 2020, the Marseille rapper scored yet another Number 1 record with La Machine, which contained the diamond-certified Top 5 single "Sousou." His fourteenth full-length, Loin du Monde, also achieved pole position in France thanks to its chart-topping lead single “Mother Fuck," featuring fellow Marseillais MC SCH. February 2021 saw him reward his fans with a surprise drop: a sixth free EP taken from his famed Album Gratuit series. That same year, the prolific Jul returned with his chart-topping fifteenth studio album, the pandemic-inspired Demain Ça Ira, and the collective effort Le Classico Organisé, which gathered 157 MCs from the Parisian suburbs and the Bouches-du-Rhône region. Also in 2021, he managed to land another Top 5 entry with the full-length Indépendance.
