Julia Neigel

Julia Neigel is a German singer and songwriter who rose to prominence in the 1990s with a series of critically-acclaimed albums such as 'Wilde Welt' (1990) and 'Nur Nach Vorn' (1991). During this period, she became the doyen of the German rock press and was rarely out of the music business news. Neigel was born in 1966 in Barnaul, Siberia, but her parents moved back to Germany when she was five. As a teenager she began to develop her extraordinary voice which has a range of octaves and initially concentrated on classical music. In 1986 she joined The Stealers, who later became the Jule Neigel Band, and in 1988 they released their debut album 'Schatten an der Wand'. After becoming one of Germany's best-known rock acts during the 1990s, the band's final album 'Alles' was released in 1998 and Neigel disappeared from the public eye afterwards. She emerged after an eight-year hiatus with the release of a live solo set titled 'Stimme mit Flügel(n) (Live)' (2006). It was to be a further five years until her studio album 'Neigelneu' was released in 2011.
