Kygo

Dealing in shimmering, soulful dance floor pop, Norwegian DJ/producer Kygo has been at the forefront of the rise in popularity of 'tropical house', working with Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding and Kodaline and becoming the fastest artist to reach one billion Spotify streams thanks to his major hit anthem “Firestone”. Born in Singapore on September 11th, 1991 but raised in Bergen, Norway, he started playing piano at the age of six and listened to his father's classic rock records before creating his own electronic tracks in his teenage years after watching tutorial videos on the Internet, lifting his stage name from the opening letters of his real name: Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll. While studying economics at university in Edinburgh, Scotland, he began posting his remixes on SoundCloud and YouTube in 2013, but it was his original track “Firestone” – featuring the vocals of Australian Conrad Sewell – that caught fire and went on to reach number eight in the UK Charts and notched up over 470 million online views. Tours with Avicii and festival slots alongside Skrillex quickly followed, and he had top 20 hits with “Here for You” and “Stay” before his debut album Cloud Nine went to number three in the UK in 2016, featuring guest vocals from Tom Odell, John Legend and Labrinth. His trademark sound of low-level, summery, upbeat grooves became a hot trend in dance music and he teamed up with Selena Gomez for the big hit single “It Ain't Me” and with Ellie Goulding on “First Time”. He performed at the closing ceremony of the Rio Olympics, before his second album Kids in Love topped the US Dance Charts in 2017. Claiming the #24 spot on DJ Mag’s coveted Top 100 DJs list the same year thanks to fans’ votes, he went on to collaborate with Imagine Dragons in 2018 before setting up his own label, the Sony subsidiary Palm Tree Records, as an outlet to showcase music from his lesser-known contemporaries. After revisiting tracks by late superstars Avicii and Whitney Houston and teaming up with the likes of Rita Ora, The Chainsmokers, OneRepublic and Zara Larsson, he unveiled his third album, Golden Hour, in 2020, which once again topped the Norwegian charts and peaked at number six in the UK.
